How should the 315 series straight line sanders be lubricated?
Answer
In addition to lubrication through the air inlet before and after each use (approximately 10-15 drops of oil), the Ingersoll Rand 315 and 315G Straight Line Air Sanders have an oil chamber that must be filled prior to first use, and checked & refilled every 2-3 hours of tool operation.
Failure to fill the oil chamber will result in poor tool performance, and possible failure. The location of this chamber can be seen in the photos below.
With the tool on its side, remove the Phillips head screw and washer indicated in the photos below, and fill the chamber up to the bottom of the threads with Ingersoll Rand #50 oil (part number 50P), or any non-detergent SAE 20-weight oil.
***Note*** - If the tool has stopped working and the oil chamber has not been filled, fill the chamber as described above, let the tool sit for a few minutes, and manually slide the drive-board back and forth several times.
