Provide instruction to service technicians and customers installing the 259 or 259G motor retainer.
The 259 and the 259G Impact tools utilize a motor retainer nut to keep the air motor tightly clamped and sealed. It is imperative that this nut be properly installed and torqued to prevent loosening and loss of power when the tool is in service.
Please follow the steps below to properly remove and reinstall item 38 Motor Retainer (259-800) nut.
- Remove item 42 (4) Hammer Case Screws (259-638) and item 40 (4) Lock Washers (259-247)
- Remove item 18 Hammer Case assembly (259-A727)
- Remove item 20 Hammer Case gasket (259-36)
- Remove Impact mechanism as an assembly by lifting item 17 Hammer Frame (259-703) off the splined end of the item 7 Rotor (259-53) and out of the housing. Set aside as assembly.
- Remove item 38 Motor Retainer (259-800) using Special spanner tool (259-212) turning in counter clockwise direction. Be sure Motor Retainer and threads are clean and dry prior to reinstallation.

Use an alcohol based solvent and a wire brush to clean old Loctite residue from the motor retainer.

- Apply 4 drops of red Loctite #262 to the threads of Motor Retainer at approximately 90 degree increments.
- Install Motor Retainer and torque in the clockwise direction to 100-110 ft-lb using Special spanner tool (259-212) driven by a torque wrench capable of measuring 110 ft-lb. Loctite will need 24 hours to fully cure.
- Ensure that the motor assembly spins freely by rotating the splined end of the Rotor by hand. If Rotor does not spin freely, loosen the Motor Retainer, lightly tap the end of the Rotor shaft with a rubber mallet, spin the Rotor, and re-torque.
- Reinstall the impact mechanism.
- Install new Hammer Case Gasket (259-36)
- Reinstall (4) Hammer Case Screws (259-638), and (4) Lock Washers (259-247). Torque to 10-12 ft-lb using an X pattern.
