Question
What is the power requirement for IC and QCD controllers? What are the maximum cable lengths for the QE/QM tools?
Environment
All users of ICD/M and QCD controllers.
Answer
Controller and Tool failures have been diagnosed to be the result of bad installation practices or incorrect sizing of the tool for an application. Below provides a quick guide summarizing the actions required before installation of controller and tool at a customer location.
- Selection of 120/230VAC is dependent on the tool family and the application. Please follow the guidelines listed in this document for sizing the system – tool, cable length and application.
- If a service transformer is used, a 2KVA rating is required per controller.
- Time lag fuse (20A for 120VAC and 12A for 230VAC) or “D” characteristic circuit breaker is required for each branch circuit.
NOTE: The controller should be properly grounded to EARTH. A continuity test between the controller housing and a known Earth ground point should be done after the installation is complete.
