Overview
Routine preventive maintenance helps keep your QX Series tool operating safely, accurately, and reliably. Regular cleaning and inspections can identify worn or damaged components before they affect fastening performance, reduce productivity, or require more extensive repairs.
While preventive maintenance cannot eliminate every issue, it is one of the most effective ways to reduce unplanned downtime and extend tool life.

Daily Maintenance
Complete these checks at the beginning or end of each shift.
1. Clean the Tool
Note: Use only approved cleaning methods.
Wipe the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove dirt, dust, chips, oil, adhesive residue, and other contaminants. Pay particular attention to the:
- Exterior housing
- Ventilation openings
- Trigger
- Display and keypad
- Battery contacts
- Output drive or spindle
Tip: If your facility requires disinfecting tools, follow the approved products and procedures in Disenfactant & the QX Series Housing. Some chemicals can damage labels or housing materials.
2. Inspect the Tool
As you clean the tool, look for signs of wear or damage, including:
- Cracked or damaged housing
- Loose screws or fasteners
- Damaged trigger
- Damaged display
- Bent or worn output drive
- Missing safety or identification labels
- Excessive wear
If you find damage that could affect safe operation or fastening accuracy, remove the tool from service until it has been inspected or repaired.
3. Check the Battery
Verify that the battery:
- Locks securely into the tool
- Is free of cracks, swelling, or impact damage
- Has clean electrical contacts
- Charges normally
Replace damaged batteries immediately.
Weekly Maintenance
1. Verify Tool Operation
Operate the tool without a production load and confirm:
- Normal startup
- Smooth trigger operation
- Consistent motor speed
- No unusual vibration
- No grinding, clicking, or abnormal noises
- Proper display operation
Unexpected noises or vibration often indicate developing mechanical issues that should be investigated before they become larger repairs.
2. Inspect Accessories
Inspect all accessories used with the tool, including:
- Bits
- Sockets
- Extensions
- Adapters
- Reaction devices
- Fixtures
Replace worn or damaged accessories promptly. Worn tooling can affect fastening accuracy and place additional stress on the tool.
3. Verify Communication
If your QX tool communicates with INSIGHT software or a controller, verify that communication is functioning normally and that the tool is synchronizing successfully.

Monthly Maintenance
1. Perform a Detailed Inspection
Inspect for:
- Housing damage
- Loose hardware
- Connector wear
- Output spindle wear
- Battery latch wear
- Signs of impact damage
- Excessive cosmetic wear that may indicate rough handling
Correct any issues before returning the tool to production.
2. Review Tool History
Where available, review diagnostic information such as:
- Fault history
- Event logs
- Cycle counts
- Usage trends
An increase in recorded faults or abnormal operating trends may indicate maintenance needs before operators notice performance changes.
3. Calibration
Preventive maintenance and calibration serve different purposes.
Routine maintenance helps keep the tool clean, safe, and operating properly. Calibration verifies that the tool continues to deliver fastening results within the required accuracy.
Follow your organization's calibration schedule based on production volume, quality requirements, and internal procedures.

4. Verify Firmware Is Current
Check whether newer firmware is available for the tool. Keeping firmware up to date helps maintain compatibility with supported controllers, software, and wireless features, and may resolve known issues or improve overall performance.

When storing a QX tool:
- Clean the tool before storage.
