Use this guide to identify error and event codes displayed by your QX Series tool.
Error codes can indicate configuration problems, communication issues, motor controller faults, battery conditions, or other operating conditions. Locate the code displayed by the tool in the tables below to identify its meaning.
Note: Some codes are associated with specific software or firmware versions. If you are troubleshooting a QX tool, verify that the tool firmware is up to date before continuing with more advanced troubleshooting.
F-Series Codes
| Code | Description |
|---|---|
| F-01 | Tool disabled by external control. |
| F-02 | Cycle Delay fault. The trigger was pulled before the cycle delay timer expired. |
| F-03 | Tool locked by Smart Socket Function. Select the correct socket at the PCM. |
| F-04 | SPI EEPROM EOR write failure. |
| F-05 | SPI EEPROM EOR read failure. |
| F-06 | Communication between the tool and PCM was lost after retries were exhausted. If a PCM is not being used, set the Configuration Select Mode on the tool to Internal. |
| 1-FF | USB enumeration fault. |
| 2-<Alarm ID> | PM Alarm Time Fault for the corresponding Alarm ID, normally configured by the user. |
| 3-<Alarm ID> | PM Alarm Cycle Fault for the corresponding Alarm ID, normally configured by the user. |
A-Series Codes
| Code | Description |
|---|---|
| A-10 | Motor controller communication timeout. |
| A-55 | A display software version update was detected. |
| A-AA | Display memory was re-initialized to factory defaults. |
| A-11 | Firmware mismatch with Display Version 2.1.2.0. Update MCE Firmware to Version 1.1.1.0, which is embedded in ICS 6.2.1.0. |
B-Series Codes
These codes generally relate to software updates, tool identification, or RF communication.

| B-01 | Failure to update Motor Controller software. |
| B-50 | Duplicate Tool Location ID detected. |
| B-80 | No RF network detected after 20 seconds. |
| B-85 | RF ACK timeout. A serial ACK message was not received from the transceiver. |
| B-E1 | RF Transmit NAK — Channel Access Failure. |
| B-E5 | RF Transmit NAK — Frame Too Long. |
| B-E9 | RF Transmit NAK — No ACK Received. |
| B-F0 | Bad MCE checksum. |
| B-F1 | Bad radio checksum. |
| B-F2 | Bad display checksum. |
C-Series Codes
These codes identify configuration values or settings that are invalid or outside the allowable range.

| C-01 | Configuration ID value is 0 or greater than 8. |
| C-02 | Number of configuration steps is greater than 8. |
| C-03 | Current Step ID is greater than the current number of steps. |
| C-04 | Total Gang is greater than 8. |
| C-05 | Current Gang count is greater than Total Gang. |
| C-06 | Current Torque High Limit is greater than the tool's maximum torque value or is less than 0. |
| C-07 | Current Torque Low Limit is greater than the tool's maximum torque value or is less than 0. |
| C-08 | Current Torque High Limit is less than Current Torque Low Limit. |
| C-09 | Current Torque Low Limit is greater than Current Torque High Limit. |
| C-0A | Current Angle High Limit is greater than the tool's maximum angle value (to be set to 9999). |
| C-0B | Current Angle Low Limit is greater than the tool's maximum angle value (to be set to 9999). |
| C-0C | Current Angle High Limit is less than Current Angle Low Limit (to be set to 9999). |
| C-0D | Current Angle Low Limit is greater than Current Angle High Limit (Fault code to be removed). |
| C-0E | The configuration step uses a Torque target and the target value is outside the torque high and low limits. |
| C-0F | The configuration step uses an Angle target and the target value is outside the angle high and low limits. |
| C-10 | Tool configuration step is not set for either Angle or Torque. |
| C-11 | Current Threshold value is greater than the maximum tool torque or is less than 0. |
| C-12 | Current Free Speed is greater than maximum motor speed. |
| C-13 | Current Shiftdown Speed is greater than maximum motor speed. |
| C-14 | Current display unit value is unsupported. |
| C-15 | Current Shiftdown Point is above the applicable target (for torque strategy) or tool torque limit (for angle strategy). |
| C-16 | Number of configuration steps is set to 0. |
| C-17 | Configuration is only partially programmed and does not match the specified number of steps. |
| C-18 | No Job selected. |
| C-55 | Invalid configuration selected. |
| C-77 | Invalid timestamp value in the Set Time message. |
E-Series Codes
These codes identify motor controller, battery, fastening, or execution faults, using MC Software.

| E-02 | I2T fault. |
| E-03 | Motor stall. |
| E-04 | Over Current. |
| E-05 | Over Temperature. |
| E-06 | Current offset. |
| E-07 | Shunt calibration fault. |
| E-08 | Torque offset fault. |
| E-09 | Transducer fault. |
| E-0A | Step execution timeout. |
| E-0B | Configuration execution timeout. |
| E-0C | Over Torque Limit. |
| E-0D | Over Angle Limit. |
| E-0E | Current Plausibility High. |
| E-0F | Under Torque. |
| E-10 | Under Angle. |
| E-11 | Current Plausibility Low. |
| E-12 | Early trigger release. |
| E-13 | Motor Controller Watchdog Reset. |
| E-14 | Motor Controller Stop Timeout. |
| E-15 | Motor Controller-to-Display EOR message failure. |
| E-18 | Motor Controller did not run all steps. This primarily affects Prevailing Torque. |
| E-1B | Battery Cell Fault detected by the Motor Controller. |
| E-1C | Low Battery Fault detected by the Motor Controller. |
| E-1D | Critical Battery Fault detected by the Motor Controller. |
| E-1E | Motor Controller is shutting down. |
| E-1F | Unexpected wakeup code received. |
| E-20 | Invalid EOR — threshold violation. |
| E-81 | Configuration ID in the Motor Controller's EOR does not match the currently selected configuration. |
Software version note: The original error-code information identifies most E-series codes as applying to MC Software 1.0.1.2 and identifies E-18 with MC Software 1.0.4.2.
Tool Event Log Codes
The following entries are event log codes rather than tool error codes. They record actions or events that have occurred on the tool.
Communication Events
These codes refer to both USB and wireless tools.

| 10-01 | Configuration Page updated from the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-02 | Tool locked by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-03 | Tool disabled by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-04 | Configuration selected by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-05 | Gang advanced by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-06 | Gang reset by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-07 | Configuration advanced by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-08 | Configuration reset by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-09 | SPI memory erased by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-0A | Tool reset by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-0B | Factory calibrations restored by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-0C | Cycle log cleared by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-0D | Event log cleared by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
| 10-AA | Time updated by the communication interface (USB or wireless). |
Reset Events

| 20-01 | Complete tool memory reset to defaults. |
| 20-02 | Tool configuration reset to defaults. |
| 30-01 | PIN reset. |
| 30-02 | POR/PDR reset. |
| 30-03 | Software reset. |
| 30-04 | Independent Watchdog reset. |
| 30-05 | Window Watchdog reset. |
| 30-06 | Low-Power reset flag. |
Protocol Errors

| EE-E0 | RF Protocol Error — RF message packet too small. |
| EE-E1 | RF Protocol Error — RF packet too long. |
| EE-F0 | MC Protocol Error — Invalid Image Checksum. |
| EE-F1 | RF Protocol Error — Invalid Image Checksum. |
| EE-F2 | DIS Protocol Error — Invalid Image Checksum. |
If the Error Persists
If an error continues after you have verified the applicable configuration, connection, battery, or other condition identified above:
- Record the complete error code displayed by the tool.
- Verify that the tool firmware is current.
- Restart the tool if appropriate for the condition.
- Refer to the QX Troubleshooting Guide for additional troubleshooting information.
