The Ingersoll Rand® 440 Series Air Extended Angle Grinders are designed for grinding and material removal in areas that can be difficult to reach with a standard angle grinder. The series includes three models with different wheel sizes, allowing you to choose the tool that best matches your application and abrasive requirements.
Choose Your 440 Series Model
All three 440 Series grinders feature a 0.9 hp motor, extended angle head, slim handle, adjustable guard, and spindle lock for faster abrasive changes. The primary difference between models is the supported wheel size.
| Model | Wheel Size | Max. Free Speed |
|---|---|---|
| 444 | 4 in. | 14,000 rpm |
| 4445 | 4.5 in. | 12,000 rpm |
| 445 | 5 in. | 12,000 rpm |
When choosing a model, consider the wheel size required for your application and the abrasives you plan to use.
Choose the 444 for a 4-Inch Wheel
The 444 uses a 4-inch wheel and provides the highest free speed in the series at 14,000 rpm.
Consider this model when your application calls for a smaller abrasive or when access in confined areas is a primary concern.
Choose the 4445 for a 4.5-Inch Wheel
The 4445 accommodates a 4.5-inch wheel and operates at a maximum free speed of 13,500 rpm.
This model provides a middle option between the 4-inch and 5-inch configurations and may be appropriate when your preferred abrasive or application requires a 4.5-inch wheel.
Choose the 445 for a 5-Inch Wheel
The 445 accommodates a 5-inch wheel and operates at a maximum free speed of 12,000 rpm.
Choose this model when your application or abrasive requires the largest wheel size available in the 440 Series.
Features Shared Across the 440 Series
Regardless of wheel size, the 440 Series is designed to provide access, performance, and operator comfort during repetitive grinding applications.
Key features include:
- 0.9 hp air motor for material removal
- Extended angle head for additional reach in tight spaces
- Reduced height over the spindle for access in confined areas
- Slim handle designed for comfort during extended use
- Low-profile throttle lever
- Auxiliary handle that can be positioned for right- or left-handed use
- Adjustable swivel guard for changing guard orientation
- Spindle lock for faster abrasive changes
The tools weigh approximately 3.7 lb and measure approximately 10.6 inches long.
Check Your Air Supply
Before choosing a 440 Series grinder, make sure your compressed-air system can support the tool.
The series requires:
- Air inlet: 1/4 in. NPT
- Minimum hose size: 3/8 in.
- Air pressure: 90 psi
- Air consumption: approximately 32–34 cfm, depending on model
An air supply that does not meet the tool's requirements can affect performance.
Before Selecting an Abrasive
Select grinding wheels and other accessories that are compatible with your specific 440 Series model, wheel size, spindle, and operating speed.
Always follow the requirements in the 440 Series Grinder Product Information and Air Grinder Safety Information before installing or using an abrasive.
