Check the air supply, lubrication, controls, and attachments before assuming that reduced performance requires internal repair.
Safety Notice
Stop using a damaged or malfunctioning tool. Disconnect the air supply before inspection or adjustment.
Before You Begin
Identify the model and note when the problem occurs. Check for visible damage and overdue maintenance.
For routine care that can help prevent performance problems, see Maintaining and Lubricating 2236 Series DXS® Air Impact Wrenches.

Checking the Air Supply
With the socket removed and the DXS anvil correctly retained, check inlet pressure at full free speed under controlled conditions. Compare it with the tool’s requirements.
If pressure drops, inspect hose size, couplers, filters, regulators, and compressor capacity. See Dynamic Air Pressure.
Troubleshooting Table
| Problem | Possible Cause | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Low power or speed | Inadequate airflow or pressure | Check dynamic inlet pressure and supply restrictions. |
| Reduced performance | Insufficient air-motor lubrication | Complete the specified lubrication. |
| Air passes through, but tool does not run | Direction control not fully engaged or internal fault | Check selector position. Arrange service if unresolved. |
| Motor runs, but tool does not impact | Lubrication issue or impact-mechanism damage | Check maintenance history; arrange service if unresolved. |
| Persistent unusual noise or vibration | Wear, damage, or incorrect assembly | Stop use and arrange authorized inspection. |
| Anvil or socket will not stay attached | Wear, damage, or incomplete engagement | Disconnect; inspect the attachment and retention components. Do not operate until secure. |
These checks draw on IR’s general pneumatic-impact diagnostic guidance; internal inspection and repair should be handled by authorized personnel.
