The Ingersoll Rand® QC Clutch Series Cordless Tools include programmable and non-programmable pistol screwdrivers and angle nutrunners for repeatable fastening applications.
Choosing the right QC Series tool depends on four primary factors:
- Whether you need programmable tool settings
- The torque range required for your application
- The type of access available around the fastener
- The drive configuration required for the application
Use this guide to narrow your options and identify the QC Series model that best fits your fastening requirements.
1. Choose Between Programmable and Non-Programmable Models
Start by determining whether your application requires programmable tool settings.
Choose a QCP Programmable Model When:
- You need to configure tool RPM.
- Your application requires supported advanced settings, such as tightening direction, soft start, disable reverse, cycle delay, or rehit detection.
- You want to configure the tool using the INSIGHT™ Connect app.
QCP models combine programmable settings with the QC Series adjustable mechanical clutch.

Note: the QCP model fundtions without programming. Programming is optional.
Choose a QCN Non-Programmable Model When:
- You need repeatable clutch-controlled fastening without software programming.
- Your application does not require configurable advanced tool settings.
- A simpler tool setup meets your fastening requirements.
QCN models use the QC Series adjustable mechanical clutch without INSIGHT Connect programming.
Important: Both QCP and QCN tools use the mechanical clutch to control fastening torque. Programming a QCP tool provides access to supported tool parameters; it does not replace clutch adjustment.
2. Determine Your Required Torque Range
Once you know whether you need a QCP or QCN model, identify the torque required for your fastening application.
Select a model whose specified torque range includes your required fastening torque.

If your required torque falls within more than one range, compare the remaining application requirements before selecting a model.
3. Choose the Tool Configuration
Your required torque may determine the available configuration. You should also consider how the operator will approach the fastener.
Pistol Screwdrivers
QC Series pistol screwdrivers provide torque ranges from 0.5 to 12 Nm and use a 1/4-inch hex drive.
Choose a pistol model when:
- The required torque falls within the available pistol tool range.
- Fasteners are readily accessible from the front or above.
- The workspace allows a straight approach to the fastener.
- A pistol-grip configuration is appropriate for the application.
Angle Nutrunners
QC Series angle nutrunners provide a 15–30 Nm torque range and use a 3/8-inch square drive.
Choose an angle model when:
- The application requires torque within the 15–30 Nm range.
- A 3/8-inch square drive is required.
- The fastener location or surrounding components make an angle configuration appropriate for the application.
4. Confirm the Drive Configuration
Make sure the selected tool provides the drive required for your fastening application.
- QC Pistol Screwdrivers: 1/4-inch hex
- QC Angle Nutrunners: 3/8-inch square
The required drive configuration, fastening accessory, and available access should all be considered before making a final selection.
5. Consider Speed Requirements
QC Series speed ranges vary by model.
The lower-torque pistol models provide speeds from 350 to 1160 rpm, while the higher-torque pistol models provide speeds from 140 to 700 rpm. Angle models provide speeds from 60 to 300 rpm.
For QCP programmable models, RPM and supported advanced settings can be configured using INSIGHT Connect.
Confirm that the selected model's available speed range is appropriate for your application.
6. Consider the Operator and Work Area
Once you have narrowed your options by programming requirements, torque, configuration, drive, and speed, consider how the tool will be used during production.
Evaluate factors such as:
- Fastener location and accessibility
- Available clearance around the assembly
- Operator reach and working position
- Number of fastening cycles
- Tool orientation during fastening
QC Series tools are designed with a balanced ergonomic configuration for high-speed assembly environments. Selecting the configuration that best fits the application can also improve operator access and comfort.

Do you need programmable RPM or other supported advanced settings?
- Yes: Choose a QCP programmable model.
- No: Choose a QCN non-programmable model.
What torque does your application require?
- 0.5–12 Nm: Select the appropriate pistol screwdriver model based on the required torque range.
- 15–30 Nm: Select an angle nutrunner.
What drive does your application require?
- 1/4-inch hex: Select a pistol screwdriver.
- 3/8-inch square: Select an angle nutrunner.
