Use this guide to diagnose common performance problems with your Ingersoll Rand® 2922 Series Pneumatic Impact Wrench before requesting service.
Many pneumatic impact wrench performance problems are related to the air supply or lubrication. Start with the basic checks below before attempting further diagnosis.
Safety Notice: Disconnect the tool from the air supply before inspecting, adjusting, or servicing the tool. Always follow the safety information provided with your tool.
Tool Has Low Power or Torque
If the tool operates but does not provide expected power or torque:
- Check the air supply. Verify that the tool receives adequate airflow and 90 psi dynamic air pressure at the tool inlet while the tool is running.
- Inspect the air hose and connections. Look for restrictions, leaks, damage, or other conditions that could reduce airflow.
- Check the air inlet. Make sure the inlet components are clean and free of obstructions.
- Verify lubrication. Make sure the air motor and impact mechanism have been lubricated at the recommended intervals.
For lubrication requirements and procedures, see Maintaining Your 2922 Series Pneumatic Impact Wrench.
If power remains low after completing these checks, the tool may have worn, dirty, or damaged internal motor components that require service.
Motor Receives Air but Does Not Run
If air passes through the tool but the motor does not operate:
- Verify that the air supply is adequate.
- Check for restrictions at the air inlet.
- Make sure the forward/reverse control is fully engaged in the desired position.
- Stop using the tool if the motor still does not operate.
Internal motor components may require inspection or replacement.
Tool Does Not Impact
If the motor runs but the tool does not impact:
- Verify that the impact mechanism has been lubricated according to the recommended maintenance interval.
- Stop using the tool if the problem continues.
A tool that does not impact after proper lubrication may have worn, broken, or incorrectly assembled impact-mechanism components that require service.
For lubrication instructions, see Maintaining Your 2922 Series Pneumatic Impact Wrench.
Tool Has Unusual Noise or Vibration
If you notice excessive or unusual noise or vibration:
- Stop using the tool.
- Inspect the tool and accessories for visible damage or loose components.
- Verify that the tool has been properly lubricated.
- Do not continue operating the tool if the noise or vibration persists.
Unusual noise or vibration may indicate worn or damaged internal components that require further diagnosis.
