The Ingersoll Rand® 2922 Series pneumatic impact wrenches are designed for demanding fastening and removal applications. Use this guide to properly connect the tool to your air supply and operate it for reliable performance.
The 2922 Series includes:
- 2922P1: 3/4-inch square drive
- 2922P3: 1-inch square drive
Both models require an adequate compressed-air supply to deliver their rated performance.

Before You Begin
Before connecting or operating the tool:
- Inspect the tool, air hose, fittings, and socket for damage or excessive wear.
- Make sure the air supply is clean and capable of providing the required pressure and airflow.
- Use only impact-rated sockets and accessories that are appropriate for the tool and application.
- Make sure the socket is properly secured to the square drive.
- Lubricate the tool as specified in Maintaining Your 2922 Series Impact Wrench.
Air Supply Requirements
For proper operation, the 2922 Series requires:

The air system must maintain the required pressure at the tool while the tool is operating. Pressure measured only when the tool is not running does not confirm that the air system can supply sufficient pressure and airflow during use.
Check Dynamic Air Pressure
To verify the air supply:
- Connect the tool to the air supply.
- Run the tool at full free speed with no load.
- Measure the air pressure at the tool inlet while the tool is running.
- Verify that approximately 90 psi is available at the tool during operation.
- If pressure drops significantly while the tool is running, inspect the air supply, hose, fittings, and regulator for restrictions or insufficient capacity.

Set Up the Tool
- Disconnect the air supply. Do not install or change sockets while the tool is connected to compressed air.
- Inspect the tool and accessories. Check the square drive, socket, air hose, and fittings for damage or excessive wear.
- Lubricate the air motor. Before use, add 8–12 drops of Ingersoll Rand #10 Air Tool Oil through the air inlet unless the air system uses an appropriate inline lubricator.
- Install the air fitting. Connect the appropriate 3/8-inch NPT fitting to the tool.
- Attach the socket. Install an impact-rated socket appropriate for the fastener and application. Make sure it is fully seated and securely retained on the drive.
- Connect the air hose. Connect a hose with a minimum inside diameter of 1/2 inch to an air supply capable of delivering the required pressure and airflow.
- Check the air supply. Verify that the tool receives 90 psi while operating.
Operate the 2922 Series Impact Wrench
Before operating the tool, make sure the socket is correctly installed and the tool is set for the intended direction of rotation.
- Position the socket completely over the fastener.
- Hold the tool securely and maintain a stable working position.
- Select the appropriate direction of rotation for tightening or loosening.
- Press the trigger to operate the tool.
- Release the trigger when the fastening or removal operation is complete.
- Disconnect the air supply before changing sockets, inspecting the tool, or performing maintenance.
Important: An impact wrench is not a torque-control device. If an application requires a specific final fastener torque, verify the fastener using an appropriate calibrated torque device or the procedure specified for the application.
Getting the Best Performance
If the tool does not appear to deliver expected power:
- Verify 90 psi dynamic air pressure at the tool inlet while the tool is running.
- Make sure the compressor can provide the required airflow.
- Check that the hose and fittings are correctly sized and are not restricted, kinked, or damaged.
- Confirm that the tool has been lubricated according to the recommended schedule.
- Inspect the socket and accessories for damage or excessive wear.

After Use
When work is complete:
- Disconnect the tool from the air supply.
- Inspect the tool and socket for damage or excessive wear.
- Clean the exterior of the tool as needed.
